To say that some Pittsburgh Steelers were less than delighted with the team’s decision to hire Arthur Smith was a bit of an understatement.
Despite his track record of success as an offensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans, recency bias makes it seem like they dropped the ball there.
That’s why star DT Cam Heyward made sure to call out the fans who haven’t even given him an opportunity to prove his worth and are already ripping him (via Blitzburgh on Twitter).

The veteran defender stated that the front office knows what they’re doing and have done their due diligence on him, and they should know better than the fans.
And even if they didn’t get it right, Heyward thinks they shouldn’t just rush to bash him without even giving him a chance to do his thing.
Truth be told, it’s easy to understand the fans’ doubts and frustration.
He ran a mediocre offense in three years with the Atlanta Falcons, and while his quarterback situation was terrible, he also misused an elite weapon like Kyle Pitts, which is obviously a big reason for concern.
Then again, some guys just fare better as coordinators or assistant coaches than as head coaches; we’ve seen that happen countless times in the league.
Hopefully, he’ll give the team the boost it needs.
And while the Steelers’ quarterback situation is also far from ideal, it became evident that they needed some fresh ideas and a new direction after Matt Canada’s days in charge of the offense.
