The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to dominate on defense, but they can’t get anything going on offense.
It seems like every single time they have some momentum going, they manage to find a way to shoot themselves in the foot.
And while the players obviously have plenty of responsibility for that, team legend Ben Roethlisberger wants the coaching staff to be held accountable as well.
In the latest edition of his Podcast, Big Ben didn’t hold back on the coaching staff regarding the silly penalties and poor clock management in the loss to the New England Patriots.
The legendary quarterback believes this is a recurring issue and blamed the coaching staff for failing to keep their players in line (via Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger on YouTube).
Truth be told, Roethlisberger is right on point there.
The players haven’t lived up to the task, and chances are that the quarterback for the future isn’t even on the roster right now.
But all the little things matter, and winning teams take care of those things.
Having too many players on the field, wasting timeouts because of that, or getting called for indiscipline and unnecessary and avoidable things is not the way to win football games in the pros.
Mike Tomlin is one of the best coaches in the game, but he’s going to have to take a deep look in the mirror and hold his coaching staff accountable as well.
There’s still time to turn things around, but it just doesn’t seem like this team has what it takes to go the distance this time.
